You can assign an object group to a rental type. An object group consists of business objects with similar characteristics.

For example, ‘Heavy equipment’ is an object group which consists of all the business objects with the same heavy equipment characteristics. Objects in this object group can be, for example, cranes and heavy loaded trucks.

You can assign an object sub group to a rental type. An object sub group further classifies business objects of the same object group.

For example, ‘Heavy trucks’ can be an object sub group of the ’Heavy equipment’ object group. This object sub group can consist of all types of heavy trucks.

To each rental type, assign the related:

• Product
• Rental posting policy. The rental posting policy defines the rules that are applied when you create a work order for the rental type.

You can assign rate codes to a rental type. A rate code identifies the price rate.

You can assign a rental calendar to a rental type. A rental calendar defines the days and times for which you can invoice a rental line.

You can assign a rental type group to a rental type. A rental type group is a group of rental types .

A depot is a place to store large quantities of equipment, food, or goods.

You  can change the depot of a business object. You can also change the related start date and end date. If you change to a new depot, you must enter the start date

You can use a fleet number to group assets in your company.

A business object can have several locations. You can add or change the business object locations.

You can change the physical ownership of a business object. You can change the ownership from one entity to another entity.

A rental type groups business objects with similar characteristics. For example, cranes or excavators.

You can do maintenance on business objects based on usage. Maintenance is triggered when equipment is used or has run for a defined amount in a defined unit. For example, a pump must be lubricated every 10,000 run hours or a car must be serviced every 15,000 KM.

You can view the business objects in a graphical view. It shows the business object availability per hour.

You can create an external business object. An external business object is not owned by you. It is an asset owned by a customer, that you add as business object for maintenance purposes.
You can use external business objects only on work orders and not on rental orders or rental quotations.

You can create an internal business object. An internal business object is your own asset. You add it as business object for maintenance reasons.

In Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, the Procurement and sourcing module and the Fixed assets module are integrated. You can create a business object with a fixed asset from a purchase order instead of creating it manually. You can do maintenance on business objects based on a recall. Maintenance is triggered when you recall all business objects of a rental type for maintenance. You can use this if a critical issue occurs that must be fixed in all business objects of a certain type.

Bulk business objects are not serialized. These business objects are usually purchased in bulk quantities and stored in your inventory and on fixed asset level.

For example: scaffolding pipes or computer cables. 

For bulk business objects, no serial numbers or lots are defined.

To create a serialized business object, a released item is required with Auto asset set to Yes.

As a result, you can create the business object and the related fixed asset.

You can create a rental business object. A rental business object is part of the rental fleet. It is available to be rented and you can use it on rental orders or rental quotations.

You can do maintenance on business objects based on a schedule. Maintenance is triggered at scheduled moments in time. For example, maintenance of an air conditioner is done every year before summer or a service on an aerial working platform is done every six months.

You can purchase a business object without acquiring a fixed asset.  You do so, for example,

if the object is internally used and does not require any fixed asset to be acquired. 

You can specify a filter on several fields that are shown on the form.

You can enter the information of the conditional priorities that define how you can use business objects.
