Set up and maintain assets

Prev Next

Assets are the equipment, vehicles, and facilities for which maintenance activities are performed. In addition to the information defined on the asset card, each asset has its own maintenance ledger to which all maintenance costs related to that asset are recorded.

Setup

How you set up assets depends on how you want to schedule and report on maintenance activities. For example, you may have a production line comprising several pieces of equipment. You can define the entire production line as a single asset, or each individual piece of equipment as its own asset. You could also define your assets by grouping together similar pieces of equipment (such as motors or conveyors). Each asset record has its own maintenance activities and costs, so define your assets in a way that lets you record this information at the level of detail you require.

Maintain

Once you set up an asset, you can create one or more preventive maintenance orders for the anticipated preventive maintenance activities to be performed for the asset. These orders act as templates from which work orders can be generated. The fields on a preventive maintenance order are the same as those on a work order, and the entries you make serve as default settings for the work orders generated from them.

In addition to these defaults, you can indicate the frequency with which a preventive maintenance order should be performed. Frequency is either calendar-based (every six months), usage-based (every 600 hours of usage), or both (every six months or every 600 hours of usage, whichever comes first). If you instruct the program to suggest preventive maintenance activities, the order's frequency settings determine whether a new work order needs to be generated.

The following table describes a sequence of activities, with links to the topics that describe them. These activities are listed in the order in which they are generally performed.
