Depending on the type of products, traceability in inventory can be limited to the batch level or can be extended to sub-batches.
Life Sciences Supply Chain Management provides an additional Sub batch tracking dimension, which is available in the Tracking dimension groups form (Product information management > Setup > Dimension and variant groups > Tracking dimension groups). The Sub batch dimension can be used to map containers or specific portions of a batch. Sub-batches have a hierarchical relationship with batches (N sub-batches can belong to one batch).
The Sub batch dimension can be activated following the rules available for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management tracking dimensions regarding blank issue/receipt allowed, primary stocking, and physical inventory.
The list of sub-batches available in the system and the corresponding properties are displayed in the Sub batches form (Inventory management > Inquiries and reports > Tracking dimensions > Sub batches).
Life Sciences Supply Chain Management provides functionality for sub-batch management, including:
Sub-batch generation upon registration from purchase orders and batch orders/production orders.
Define advanced rules for the calculation of the sub-batch number.
Defining the sub-batch type, for example to track different types of samples.
Blocking a sub-batch from being transacted.
Defining sub-batch information such as shelf-life dates, storage conditions, container configuration etc.
