Advanced sub batch numbering

Prev Next

Life Sciences Supply Chain Management also allows defining a structure for the generation of sub-batch numbers. The sub-batch number structure is item-specific and defined in the Sub batch number group field in the Released products form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Inventory Management FastTab). If no rule is defined, the sub-batch numbers are by default generated as the batch number plus a sequential numbering (for example, BatchNum-###), defined in the Default sub batch ID format in the General tab of the Inventory and warehouse management parameters form (Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters).

The rules for the generation of the sub-batch numbers are defined in the Sub batch number groups form (Inventory management > Setup > Dimensions > Sub batch number groups). The Sub batch number group allows to:

  • Define the sub-batch number structure by specifying the segments that are going to compose the sub-batch number in the Segments FastTab. The available segments are:

    • Item number

    • Batch number

    • Date

    • Number sequence code

    • Site

    Note

The sub-batch numbers can now be created independently form the batch number by not including the Batch number segment.

  • Specify the Date format (for example, YYYYMMDD, YYMM, YYWK) in case the Date field is included in the Segments FastTab of the sub-batch number groups.

  • Choose to identify the sub batches via a configurable number sequence (for example, SB###Site), by enabling the Number sequence No. parameter and populating the Number sequence code field in the General FastTab, or via a sequential numbering defined in the Format field added at the end of the sub-batch number (for example, SubBatch-###), only available if the Number sequence No. parameter is disabled.

  • Configure the automatic reset of the sub-batch number sequence based on a predefined frequency (that is, never, daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly) in the Reset number sequence field.

  • Select the separator to be used between the segments composing the sub-batch number in the Separator field.

  • Define the default quantity per sub batch automatically populated when generating sub batches in the Per qty. field.

  • Define whether the default quantity per sub batch can be overridden or not upon material registration by enabling the Per qty. block editing parameter.

Example

The Sub batch number group for item “RM001” is configured as follows:

  • Per qty set to “50”

  • Number sequence No. set to Yes

  • Reset number sequence set to Never

  • Number sequence code set to “SB###”

  • Separator set to Hyphen

  • The segments of the sub batch number group are set as follows:

    • Number sequence

    • Date, with format set as “YYYYWK”

    • Batch number

Multiple batches of item “RM001” are received in site AA on different dates. Each batch includes “100g” quantity. The batch and sub-batch numbers will be generated as follows:
