In the Life Science industry, material traceability is of paramount importance. In this context, labels, summarizing the main information of the batch/sub-batch, have a crucial role. Labels may need to be printed before the manufactured product’s actual production and attached to the container that will store it. Life Sciences Supply Chain Management™ allows users to generate sub-batch numbers at a defined order status (that is, Released, Started, and Reported as finished) by enabling the Sub batch numbers generation by order status parameter (Production control > Setup > Production control parameters > General tab). Users can define the order status when the sub-batches are generated by filling in the Create sub batch numbers at status field in the Released products form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Engineer FastTab).
Inventory sub-batches are automatically generated when updating the order Status, according to the capacity of the Container configuration assigned to the order (and to the Co/By-products) or according to the quantity defined in the Per qty. field of the Sub batch number group assigned to the item, if no container configuration is assigned.
If both the Container configuration and the Sub batch number group are not specified and the order is updated to the desired Status, an error message is displayed and the sub-batches are not generated.
Sub-batch numbers are generated according to the Default sub batch ID format (Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters > General tab) or the Sub batch number group, if specified.
Sample sub-batches are generated according to the policy defined in the Number of samples per type form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Engineer tab). Users can define the number of sample sub-batches per type, the Capacity, the Container configuration (if needed), the Sub batch type, and whether the sample quantity is already included in the total batch/production order quantity.
Sample sub-batch numbers are generated according to the Default sample ID format (Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters > General tab).
Sub-batches are generated only if the Batch number is already specified for the manufactured product(s) (that is, manually assigned or automatically populated based on order status), otherwise, an error message is displayed.
Generated sub-batches are listed in the Production sub batches form (Production control > Production orders > All production orders > Production order tab > Production sub batches). Users can delete the generated sub-batches by clicking Delete or manually create inventory and sample sub-batches by clicking the Create production sub batch numbers and Create samples buttons, respectively.
In the Production sub batches form, users can also print labels by selecting the desired sub-batch(es) and clicking the Print labels button. Users can then select the desired Layout ID, the Printer name, the Number of copies, and the Print reason in the Select printer dialog. The Printer, Number of copies and Layout ID are defaulted based on the first document routing met by the selected sub-batches. A different layout can be selected among the layouts for Document routing of Work order type = Finished goods put away. When labels are printed for the selected sub-batches, the Label printed checkbox is enabled for all the selected sub-batches.
If sub-batches are generated at order release or start, labels can also be automatically printed at order start.
The list of the generated sub-batches is also available in the Registration form (Production control > Production orders > All production orders > Production order tab > Report as finished > Inventory > Registration), by clicking the Production sub batches list button in the Registration lines FastTab. Users can select one or more sub-batch(es) from the list and proceed with registration.
