Picking via mobile device

Prev Next

The Warehouse Management System included in the standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management solution provides extensive capabilities to use mobile devices to record the physical movements of material in inventory. A work order is generated for material to be picked from the warehouse, based on the reservation for a specific order.

Work order processing via mobile device can be initiated either from the open worklist or by scanning the Work ID in the dedicated menu item. Users need to scan the barcode of the specific material (that is, batch or batch and sub-batch) required for the selected order.

To improve productivity and allow for a quicker and more efficient process, Life Sciences Warehouse Management allows to:

  • Display the Due date in the Work form and in the All work ListPage. The date is automatically filled in based on the start date of production or pick-up date of shipment to provide users information on when the work order should be completed. The due date can also be displayed in the open worklist via mobile device if set up in the Field list for the corresponding mobile device menu item.

  • Directly scan the batch/sub-batch barcode instead of the location/license plate one. If the item is sub-batch managed, the system automatically picks the full sub-batch quantity to ensure sub-batch integrity. If only a part of the sub-batch is consumed or shipped, its leftover quantity remains in the original location.

  • Display the smallest available sub-batch (that is, the smaller available quantity that matches the reservation) as part of the picking step.
This information can be enabled by setting the Display smallest sub batch parameter to Yes for the picking menu item in the Mobile device menu items form (Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items).
If the Smallest sub batch is enabled, the following information is displayed on the mobile device during the picking operation:

    • Sub batch ID.

    • Quantity of the sub-batch.

    • Location where the sub-batch is stored.

    Note

The system will not consider expired sub-batches, blocked sub-batches, or sub-batches whose parent batch has an inappropriate batch disposition code.

Users can also choose to exclude sub-batches stored in a particular area or location by enabling the Exclude sub batches from location parameter and populating the Locations to exclude query in the relevant Mobile device menu item form (Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items).

  • Control that the following conditions are met upon material picking via mobile device:

    • The Batch disposition code of the material allows picking (that is, the Block picking parameter in the Batch disposition master form is disabled for the applicable transaction type). Otherwise, the system returns an error message. In the case of shipment picking, this check can be overridden for a specific order by enabling the Ignore > Batch disposition code parameter in the order header.

    • The sub-batch is not blocked (that is, the Stopped parameter in the Sub batches form is disabled). Otherwise, the system returns an error message. In the case of shipment picking, this check can be overridden for a specific order by enabling the Ignore > Stopped sub batch parameter in the order header.

    • The batch disposition code is supported by the destination location, based on the controlled movement matrix (optional).

    • The material use code is appropriate for the intended use code of the order (optional).
