Re-import updated translations to variants only

Prev Next

Re-import product data to update the translations on the product variants while leaving the main product translations unchanged. Use this task when your Translation update strategy is set to Variant-only updates, which is the default behavior. Complete the following steps to update the variant translations.

Steps

  1. Go to Engineering change management > PLM integration > PLM systems.
The PLM systems list page opens.

  2. Select and open the relevant PLM system.

  3. Select the Translation update strategy as Off (Variant-only updates).

  4. Import the existing product from the PLM source with the new or updated translations.

  5. Go to Engineering change management > PLM integration > PLM staging journals.
The PLM staging journals list page opens.

  6. Locate and open the staging journal created by the import.

  7. Select the relevant journal line and open the Translations tab.

  8. Review the imported language codes, part names, and part descriptions.

  9. Click Post journal. The system validates the translations and updates them on both the main product and its related variants.

  10. After posting is completed:

    • The journal status changes to Posted.

    • New language translations are added.

    • Changed translation values are updated.

    • Identical translations are skipped.

    • Invalid or unsupported language codes are skipped and reported as warnings.

    • The Infolog displays the posting results.

  11. Review the Infolog and confirm that the translations were successfully applied to both the main product and its variants.

  12. Go to Product information management > Products > Released products.

  13. Locate and open the main product.

  14. Open the Translations form and confirm that the main product translations remain unchanged.

  15. Open the product variants for the main product.

  16. Select the relevant variant and open its Translations form.

  17. Confirm that the translations on the variant contain the new values from the PLM import.

Note

  • In this mode, a re-import does not update translations on the main product. To update both the main product and its variants, set Translation update strategy to Product and variant updates.

  • This behavior is the same for Import Part, Import ECO, Import Migration, and Import Release.

  • The Infolog records the translations that were updated and confirms that the changes were applied only to the variant.
