Synthetic route

Prev Next

Pharmaceutical and chemical companies can synthesize the same product following different steps and using different ingredients, depending on the availability of the ingredients and time constraints. By following one or another synthetic route, the resulting products may have different shelf life dates.

Life Sciences Supply Chain Management allows for the definition of the synthetic routes that can be assigned to product batches (Inventory management > Setup > Synthetic routes) and the usage of synthetic routes in advanced date calculation rules for the item.

The Synthetic route field has been added to the Batches (Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance > Tracking dimensions > Batches) and Sub batches (Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance > Tracking dimensions > Sub batches) forms. Whenever users want shelf life dates to be recalculated based on the synthetic route, they must:

  1. Create a new synthetic route (Inventory management > Setup > Synthetic routes).

  2. Create a new date calculation rule for the item, including the new synthetic route (Product information management > Products > Released products > Manage inventory Tab > Date calculation rules).

  3. Assign the synthetic route to the item batch/sub batch of interest and recalculate shelf life dates.
