Batch dates are typically calculated based on simple rules (for example, for intermediate/finished products) or entered by authorized users based on the information provided by the supplier or manufacturer (for example, for raw materials).
Life Sciences Supply Chain Management allows users to define custom rules for calculating batch dates by applying advanced mathematical calculations. Such calculations can be configured in the Batch dates calculations form (Inventory management > Setup > Batch dates > Batch dates calculations).
Advanced batch date calculations for an item can be enabled by setting the Use advanced calculation parameters to Yes (for shelf advice date, expiration date, and best before date) in the Manage inventory FastTab of the Released product details form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Released product details). Once one or more of these parameters are enabled, it is possible to select the corresponding calculation rule (Shelf advice date calculation, Expiration date calculation, Best before date calculation).
Example
Advanced batch dates calculations have been created as follows and assigned to item “DP-0001”:
Shelf-advice date calculation:
Years: “1”
Months: “2”
Days: “7”
Fixed date: N/A
Based on this configuration, the Shelf advice date will be calculated by adding one year, two months, and seven days to the Manufacturing date.
Best-before date calculation:
Years: “0”
Months: “6”
Days: “5”
Fixed date: First day of the following month
Based on this configuration, the Best before date will be calculated by adding six months and five days to the Manufacturing date and rounding to the first day of the following month.
Expiration date calculation:
Years: “2”
Months: “4”
Days: “0”
Fixed date: Fixed
Date: “15”
Based on this configuration, the Expiration date will be calculated by adding two years and four months to the Manufacturing date and rounding to the 15th day of the month.
Batch “BN001” of item “DP-0001” is created, and its Manufacturing date is set to “24th October 2017”. The shelf-life dates will be automatically calculated as follows based on the advanced batch date calculation rules:
Manufacturing date | Shelf advice date | Expiration date | Best before date |
|---|---|---|---|
24th October 2020 | 31st December 2021 | 15th February 2023 | 1st September 2022 |
