Life Sciences Supply Chain Management™ enables assignment and tracking of sub-batch attributes, which is essential when units or containers in the same batch present different characteristics. Assign attributes to items via Released product details (Product information management > Products > Released products) using the Product specific button. You can set attribute values for batches and sub-batches.
Use the Search sub batch button in the Search inventory form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Manage inventory > Search inventory) to filter sub batches by defined attribute ranges, such as finding all sub batches with a “pH” between 4 and 6.
In the Sub batches form (Inventory management > Inquiries and reports > Tracking dimensions > Sub batches), users can view or assign attribute values by selecting the Inventory sub batch attributes button in the View tab. When clicking the Load item attributes button, the system displays the attributes related to the item. Users may manually associate a value with each available attribute.
The Copy attribute functionality allows attribute values to be copied from the parent batch to the selected sub batch(es).
As an alternative to the manual entry and update of the attribute values, it is possible to assign them to sub-batches by copying from a quality order line result. To do this, set up the test group line as follows:
The Attribute field must be populated to link the test with an attribute.
The Test value determination field must be populated to determine how the attribute is calculated when multiple results are recorded for the same test (that is, Average, Minimum, Maximum, Manual).
The Update inventory sub batch attribute parameter must be enabled to trigger the attribute update when the quality order is validated. Alternatively, it is possible to enable the Update inventory sub batch attribute after review parameter to trigger the attribute update when a test is reviewed.
Quality orders may be generated for individual sub-batches (that is, one quality order per unit or container) or for an entire batch, depending on the enabled Tracking dimensions within item sampling (Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance > Setup > Quality control > Item sampling). To ensure that the sub-batch attribute is automatically updated with the results from the quality order, it is essential to establish a connection between the quality order or its result and the specific sub-batch using one of the following methods:
If a quality order is batch-specific and not directly linked to the sub-batch inventory dimension, users must assign one or more sub-batches to each quality order result. Use the Sub batches button in the Quality order line results form to link sub-batches to the result.
If quality orders are specific to sub-batches (Item sampling enabled for the Sub batch tracking dimension), then the linked sub-batch is set in Quality order > Inventory dimension > Sub batch tab. The sub-batch will update with attribute values entered as results.
Examples
Batch-specific quality order
Quality order “QO-000001” is created for batch BN001 and sub-batch BN001-01 with a test line for Impurities, and the Update inventory sub batch attribute parameter enabled. After entering the test results, the system calculates the Attribute value according to the defined Test measurement value and, upon quality order validation, displays the following message: Sub batch attribute update. Attribute values for the inventory sub batch BN001-01 have been updated.
The attribute value is automatically set for BN001-01, and if Update inventory batch attribute is also enabled, it is assigned to parent batch BN001 as well.
Sub batch specific quality order
Quality order “QO-000002” is created for batch BN002 and no specific sub-batch, with a test line for Impurities associated with an attribute, and both the Update inventory batch attribute and Update inventory sub batch attribute parameters enabled.
The user enters the following results for the “Impurities” test:
Result 1: “0.9” associated with sub-batch “BN002-01” and “BN002-02” via the Sub batches by result
Result 2: “0.3” associated with sub-batch “BN002-03” via the Sub batches by result
Result 3: “0.5” associated with sub-batch “BN002-04” and “BN002-05” via the Sub batches by result
The Attribute value assigned to the batch is based on the Test measurement value: “Minimum” is 0.3, “Maximum” is 0.9, and “Average” is 0.57
Note
The average may differ if using a Weighted or Unweighted evaluation method). After processing and validating the quality order, the following messages appear:
Batch attribute update. Attribute values for the inventory batch BN002 have been updated.
Sub batch attribute update. Attribute values for the inventory sub batch BN002-01 have been updated.
Sub batch attribute update. Attribute values for the inventory sub batch BN002-02 have been updated.
Sub batch attribute update. Attribute values for the inventory sub batch BN002-03 have been updated.
Sub batch attribute update. Attribute values for the inventory sub batch BN002-04 have been updated.
Sub batch attribute update. Attribute values for the inventory sub batch BN002-05 have been updated.
To extend batch attribute values to sub batches, use the Sub batch attribute creation job found under Inventory management > Periodic tasks.
The sub batch attributes functionality is integrated with Microsoft Quick result entry form allowing users to associate sub batches to a result line from the new form.
