The Change License Plate function within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management Life Sciences Warehouse Management is intricately designed to support rigorous pharmaceutical manufacturing standards and compliance with GMP. This feature facilitates the dynamic transition of materials from a non-compliant handling unit (that is license plate) to a GMP-compliant handling unit during the raw material picking process. As a configurable step, when materials are picked for production, the system prompts operators to identify a new license plate (for example scanning and updating to a GMP-compliant handling unit), thereby not only meeting compliance requirements but also enhancing the traceability and integrity of inventory management.
To achieve this, the Change License Plate work type must be included as a step in the Work templates form (Warehouse management > Setup > Work > Work templates) before the last picking step for production picking work (that is Work order type Raw material picking).

When the system encounters a work line with the Change License Plate work type during the execution of a production picking process, the user is prompted via the mobile device to either confirm the existing license plate or scan a new one. This ensures that the materials are associated with the correct handling unit throughout their movement. The following steps are supported on the mobile device:
Change LP Prompt: Upon reaching the Change License Plate step, a dialog box appears asking the user if they wish to change the license plate. If the user opts to proceed, they are prompted to scan or enter the new license plate number.
License Plate Validation: If the license plate is valid (that is not used in another location), it is updated in the Target License Plate field in the Work If invalid, an error is displayed, and the user is required to enter a valid license plate.
Completion: Once the new license plate is successfully scanned and validated, the system updates the work line status to Closed, and the picking process continues with the next step. If the user opts to skip the change, the work line is marked as Canceled, and the previous license plate remains associated with the work.
This function ensures that the warehouse management processes are not only efficient but also fully compliant with global standards, helping to maintain the high quality and safety of products throughout the supply chain.
