The Warehouse Management System included in the standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management solution allows warehouse operators to execute blind cycle counting processes via mobile devices. A cycle counting work is generated (either manually or automatically, according to thresholds or time intervals) to count every item in a single location or a single item across multiple locations in the same warehouse. Users are forced to scan all the relevant dimensions (for example, item number, batch number, license plate number) before the insertion of the counted quantity.
At the end of the process, the line is confirmed if the counted quantity matches the expected quantity for each item, batch and/or sub-batch. Otherwise, the system highlights the discrepancies, and authorized users can either confirm or reject the count line by line.
Standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management allows choosing the dimensions the system shall display during the cycle counting work processing via mobile device. The setup is available in the Mobile device cycle counting form (Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items, Cycle counting button).
Life Sciences Warehouse Management module adds the following parameters in the Mobile device cycle counting form:
Display sub batch number: when enabled, the system displays the sub batch tracking dimension upon cycle counting via mobile device, when the counted item is sub-batch managed. Therefore, users only need to enter the counted quantity for each identified sub-batch.
Direct sub batch scanning: when enabled, users identify counted sub-batches by directly scanning the sub-batch number before the insertion of the counted quantity. Since the sub-batch number is unique throughout the system, all other available dimensions are automatically retrieved, thus minimizing the workers’ effort and time to perform cycle counting.
Note
The two functionalities cannot be enabled at the same time. Therefore, if one of the parameters is activated for a menu item, the other will automatically be disabled for the same menu item.
New batch creation: when disabled, the system prevents the creation of new batch numbers during the cycle counting process. If a user attempts to scan a batch number that does not exist, the system will display an error message, thus preventing the creation of unauthorized new batch numbers. When this parameter is enabled, the system allows the creation of new batch numbers, providing flexibility in handling unforeseen inventory scenarios.
Cycle counting by license plate
The Warehouse Management System included in the standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management solution allows warehouse operators to initiate a spot cycle counting process via mobile devices by scanning the location to count. Then, users need to count all the material in the location, as described above.
Life Sciences Warehouse Management module adds the option of initiating a cycle counting by scanning a license plate. The setup is available in the Mobile device cycle counting form (Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items), and can be configured by setting the Work creation process field to License plate spot cycle count.
All standard and Life Sciences functionalities related to cycle counting via mobile device described above are also available for license plate spot cycle counting.
Note
If a cycle counting work is open for a license plate, it is not possible to count that license plate.
If a cycle counting work is open for a license plate, it is possible to count other license plates in that location.
If a cycle counting work is open for a license plate, it is not possible to count material on that location.
If a cycle counting work is open for a location, it is not possible to count license plates on that location.
