In the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, companies are often required to track and/or restrict the number of active substances imported, exported, or manufactured for a specific country to ensure local or international regulations are followed (for example, the REACH Regulation in Europe).
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management provides a basic feature that can track inventory movements and quantities related to products that include active substances.
Life Sciences Supply Chain Management introduces the ability to:
Determine the composition of products and the percentage of active substances within a product.
Define the maximum quantity of an active substance that can be imported/exported from/to a country during any period.
Define a threshold value for the quantity in/out. Once the threshold value is exceeded, a warning message is displayed when ordering, shipping, or receiving the active substance from/to the specified country.
Users can activate the control of active substances by setting the Check CAS quantity parameter to “Yes” in the Product compliance tab of the Inventory and warehouse management parameters form (Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters > Product compliance).
The list of Chemical Abstract Substance (CAS) numbers can be defined in Product information management > Setup > CAS > CAS numbers.
Once CAS numbers have been set up, users can define the maximum and threshold quantity of an active substance that can be imported/exported from/to a specific country by clicking the CAS country restrictions button from the CAS numbers form.
When the threshold quantity is reached, a warning message is displayed when a sales order or purchase order for the selected item and country is created. The user can set up the following parameters:
Country/region
Short name
Quantity in
Quantity in threshold
Quantity out
Quantity out threshold
The system automatically calculates the Accumulated qty in and Accumulated qty out upon material receipt or shipment. The calculation also takes into consideration returned quantities.
Once the country restrictions have been defined, CAS control for an item can be enabled by selecting one or more CAS numbers in the Item CAS relations form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Manage inventory tab > Compliance > Reporting details > Item CAS relations) and entering the corresponding CAS percentage for the selected item.
Life Sciences Supply Chain Management automatically checks the CAS quantity related to any purchase/sales order line when the packing slip is registered. If the threshold quantity or the quantity in/quantity out are reached, the system displays a warning message.
In addition, the user can check CAS quantities and restrictions from purchase/sales orders at any time by clicking the Check quantity restrictions button:
For purchase orders, in the Manage tab of the All purchase orders form (Procurement and sourcing > Purchase orders > All purchase orders).
For sales orders, in the Manage tab of the All sales orders form (Sales and marketing > Sales orders > All sales orders).
If the control of CAS quantities and restrictions is not required but users need to associate an item with a specific CAS number for reporting purposes, it is possible to select a CAS number in the Manage inventory FastTab of the Released product details form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Released product details).
