Handling instructions

Prev Next

Pharmaceutical and chemical industries must provide users with instructions to handle chemical substances to promote regulatory efficiency and prevent incidents that can impact product quality and operator safety.

Handling instructions in Life Sciences Supply Chain Management consist of statements and images that can be attached to the item master to instruct users on how to handle specific materials.

  • Statements can be defined in the Statements form (Product information management > Setup > Handling instructions > Statements).

  • Warning images and/or miscellaneous images can be loaded in the Images form (Product information management > Setup > Handling instructions > Images).

Authorized users can assign multiple statements and images to items by clicking the Handling instructions button in the Released product details forms (Product information management > Products > Released products > Manage inventory tab).

The following information can be entered in the Handling instructions form:

  • Description: Unique identifier for the handling instruction.

  • Reference type: Transaction to which the handling instruction applies, that is, Purchase, Inventory, Transfer, Production, Sales, or All of the previous ones.

  • Select one or multiple statements for each handling instruction by clicking the New button in the Statements tab.

  • Select one or multiple images for each handling instruction by clicking the New button in the Images tab.

During the execution of specific processes, users will be able to retrieve the handling instructions for the item being transacted:

  • If the Reference type is Purchase or All, handling instructions can be accessed by clicking the Handling instructions button from a purchase order line.

  • If the Reference type is Transfer or All, handling instructions can be accessed by clicking the Handling instructions button from a transfer order line.

  • If the Reference type is Production or All, handling instructions can be accessed by clicking the Inquiries > Handling instructions button from a batch order formula.

  • If the Reference type is Sales or All, handling instructions can be accessed by clicking the Handling instructions button from a sales order line.

  • If the Reference type is Inventory or All, handling instructions can be accessed by clicking the Handling instructions button from a dispensing order line.

For each specific transaction, users may override the statements and images inherited from the item master by clicking the Override button. The New and Delete buttons will be enabled, thus allowing users to add, delete, and modify existing handling instructions.
