Life Sciences Supply Chain Management enables the automatic transfer of samples to dedicated storage locations, preventing their movement to production areas. This process uses an automatic transfer journal to move sample quantities to a specific site, warehouse, location, or license plate.
In the Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance parameters form (Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance > Setup > Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance parameters), the following fields are dedicated to this functionality:
Default sample journal: defines the transfer journal name to be used for sample quantity adjustment. Only journals of type Transfer can be selected.
Automatic sample journal posting: defines if the transfer journal is automatically posted or if a manual step is required to review and post it.
Sample – movement parameters: determine which processes should trigger the sample movement:
Sample movement – Purchase: enables the functionality for purchased material. The transfer journal will be generated upon posting product receipt.
Sample movement – Production: enables the functionality for manufactured material. The transfer journal will be generated upon report as finished a batch order, even if the batch order is partially reported as finished (with End job set either to Yes or No).
The Sub batch types settings (Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance > Setup > Sub batch > Sub batch type) define default storage locations for samples, including Site, Warehouse, Location, and License plate (if applicable). When a sub-batch has an assigned type with these dimensions set, it is transferred from the receiving/production/dispensing booth to the specified storage location. If the Automatic sample journal posting parameter is enabled, the transfer journal is posted automatically. Otherwise, an authorized user must manually post it.
Steps - Process purchased materials
The process for purchased material is as follows:
The Sample Movement – Purchase parameter must be enabled in the Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance parameters.
One or multiple sub-batch types must be available with the inventory dimensions (Site, Warehouse, Location, License plate) populated as the desired storage location of the purchased sample.
The user registers the purchased material and assigns the Sub batch type value to the sample sub batch(es).
Upon posting of the product receipt, a transfer journal is automatically generated to move the quantity of the sub-batch(es) from the receiving location to the storage location.
Steps - Process manufactured products
The process for manufactured products is as follows:
The Sample Movement – Production parameter must be enabled in the Life Sciences Quality Control & Assurance parameters.
One or multiple sub-batch types must be available with the inventory dimensions (Site, Warehouse, Location, License plate) populated as the desired storage location of the manufactured product sample.
The user registers the manufactured product and assigns the Sub batch type value to the sample sub batch(es).
When the production order is reported as finished – totally or partially (i.e., End job parameter is either set to Yes or No), a transfer journal is automatically generated to move the quantity of the sub batch(es) from the production location to the storage location. The transferred quantity is excluded from any put-away work the system might generate.
