Data Quality Studio for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central checks master data against your validation rules and duplicate checks when users create or update records.
However, point-of-entry validation doesn’t automatically check:
Records created before you activated a data quality policy
Records imported in bulk
Existing records that haven’t been edited since a policy changed
Run a data quality assessment to apply your active policies to existing Customer, Vendor, and Contact records. The assessment processes the records in a batch, records each issue in a result log, and lets you review, correct, or accept the issue.
This article explains how data quality assessments work. Before you run an assessment, configure the policies and rules that it uses. For more information, see:
Use a Data Quality Assessment when you want to:
Measure the quality of existing master data against your current policies.
Find records that were created before a policy was activated.
Detect duplicate Customer, Vendor, or Contact records already in the system.
Monitor data quality trends over time.
Supported entities
Entity | Table No. |
|---|---|
Customer | 18 |
Vendor | 23 |
Contact | 5050 |
Check types
When you create an assessment, select one of the following check types:
Validation – runs only the validation rules of the selected policies.
Duplicate check – runs only the duplicate checks of the selected policies.
Both – runs validation rules and duplicate checks together.
Result statuses
Each assessment result has a status that indicates the required follow-up.
Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
Open | The issue is unresolved and requires review, correction, or acceptance. |
Accepted Deviation | You reviewed the issue and accepted it without correcting the record. |
Resolved | The record was corrected and no longer fails when the assessment is rerun. |
Note
A Data Quality Assessment reports and tracks data quality issues. It does not change your master data automatically. You decide how to handle each result.
A Data Quality Policy can have only one active duplicate check at a time. If you try to activate a second duplicate check on the same policy, Business Central prevents the action and shows the message “Only one active Duplicate Check is allowed per Data Policy.” For details, see Configure duplicate check rules in the policy.
