Formulas and BOMs defines the list of materials needed to obtain a product, and they have direct impact on the product quality. For this reason, they need to be properly reviewed and approved.
Standard D365 allows approving and activate formulas and BOMs to allow their usage in production. Life Sciences Supply Chain Management provides an additional approval step for formulas and BOMs to allow the release of the relevant batch order/production order.
If the Enable approval for production parameter is enabled in the Inventory and warehouse management parameters (Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters > Bill of materials tab), the formula/BOM assigned to the relevant batch order/production order must be approved to allow the release of the order. If this additional approval step is required, an authorized user must approve the formula/BOM version (Production information management > Products > Released products > Engineer tab) by clicking the Approve for production release button. The approval for production release can be secured by electronic signature.
If the formula/BOM is not approved for production release, it will not be possible to release the batch order/production order as and the system will show an error message.
