The Life Sciences Weighing and Dispensing module allows for the management of the exceptions, such as:
The completion of a weighing operation with less quantity than expected (weighed quantity is under the lower limit).
A change in the dispensing request (weighing operation is canceled).
The re-execution of a weighing operation in case of errors.
Complete a dispensing order line under the lower limit
When a dispensing order line must be closed, even if the weighed material is under the acceptable lower limit, an authorized user can mark the line as completed by clicking the Update > Complete button in the dispensing order line.
In this case, the Remaining quantity field is zeroed, and the Status of the line is set to Completed.
The Dispensed checkbox is enabled for the corresponding formula line in case of dispensing order generated from a batch order.
Note
The Complete button is available only if the dispensing order line is in the In progress status.
Cancel a dispensing order line
If a dispensing order line that has not been started yet must be canceled, an authorized user can mark the line as canceled by clicking the Update > Cancel button in the dispensing order line.
In this case, the Status of the line is set to Canceled.
Note
The Cancel button is available only if the dispensing order line is in the status Released.
Close a dispensing operation with an error
The system displays an error message if an error occurs during a dispensing operation. The dispensing operator can click:
Retry, to try again to close the transaction.
Ignore, to temporarily ignore the message, and carry on with other transactions.
If the error is ignored, the weighing line for which the error occurred is in the status Executed, and a new line for the original target quantity is created in the status Started.
The Status of the dispensing operation in the Dispensing operations form is set to Error. An authorized user can verify the error log that has been displayed in D365 by clicking the Log button.
Note
The dispensing operation in error status and the log are available only in case of dispensing order. If the error occurred while processing a dispensing request linked to a production picking journal, the error is not recorded in D365.
Once the cause is fixed in D365, the dispensing operator can select the line in status Started from the list of weighing operations and re-process the operation.
The weighing operation details are updated in the Dispensing operations form for the line.
Cancel a dispensing operation stuck in status Pending, Started, or Error
Note
To use this feature, you must be running Life Sciences release 2026-Q3 or later.
If the computer crashes or other errors occur during a dispensing operation, the dispensing operation might get locked in status Started, Pending, or Error and cannot be processed. An error message is returned when selecting the dispensing order line in the Life Sciences Weighing and Dispensing Client.
An authorized user can select the relevant dispensing operation in D365 and click Cancel. The operation status is updated to Canceled, while all other information remains unchanged. Operators can then continue processing the dispensing order line in the Life Sciences Weighing and Dispensing client.
