Write off a sales credit memo line

Prev Next

When a sales credit memo line for an item is posted, the program creates a positive adjustment for that item, returning it to inventory. If you do not want to return the item to inventory, due to spoilage or damage, for example, indicate that it should be written off on the credit memo line. When the credit memo is posted, the program returns the item and then immediately adjusts it out of inventory.

You can also designate a writeoff responsibility for a credited item. If you use the Lot Settlement report to suggest payment prices for a vendor's items that you resell, the report factors a credited item's selected writeoff responsibility into that suggestion.

Steps

  1. In the search box, enter Sales Credit Memos, and then choose the related link.

  2. Open the relevant sales credit memo. On the Lines FastTab, select the credit memo line you want to write off, then select the Writeoff field.

  3. Select an option in the Writeoff Responsibility field for the sales credit memo line, if necessary.
