Completed projects

Completed projects appear under History in the Industrial Equipment Manufacturing Project Manager role center. The list shows all projects with the status Completed.

Complete a project

To complete a project, all project tasks should first reach the line status Completed.

When the project status is changed to Completed during the project completion activity, a check is made whether this status can be set based on the following checks:

The user is notified through a warning or an error based on the Action if error during Project Completion setting in Projects Setup. You can set this to:

  • Blank: do nothing.

  • Warning: a warning is shown but the activity continues.

  • Error: an error message is shown and the activity stops.

When all checks pass, the Complete field on the project header is set to True and all project planning lines are updated to Completed.

Complete a project task

The project task also has a status code:

  • Open

  • Released

  • Completed

  • Blocked

A processing report cycles through all project tasks to determine if all planning lines for a project task have the status Completed and all billable lines have been transferred to a sales invoice. When true, the project status is set to Completed.

Complete a project planning line

In this activity, it is important to distinguish between the Line Status and the Status of the project planning line. The Line Status is an Industrial Equipment Manufacturing-specific field that lets the planner manage the workload:

  • Open: the line needs to be reviewed or is not due yet. Open planning lines are not visible to the planning system.

  • Released: the line has been reviewed and can be replenished. Released planning lines are picked up by the planning system.

  • Completed: the line is completed even when remaining quantities still exist. The quantity is updated to the quantity posted.

    • The status Completed is set automatically when the Qty. Remaining on the planning is 0, based on the "Planning Line Completed when Remaining Quantity = 0" setting in Projects Setup.

    • When the Completed field on the resource task assignment is selected and the assignment is posted, the planning line status is also set to Completed.

  • Blocked: the line has been reviewed but is temporarily on hold.

The Status field is a standard Dynamics D365 BC field that follows the project status: Planning, Quote, Order, Completed, and is updated automatically.
