Basic process manufacturing

Prev Next

While some aspects of manufacturing remain the same regardless of industry, there are significant differences in the policies and procedures implemented within various production environments. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central standard production functionality lets a company define production BOMs and routings, then create production orders to be executed by a shop floor staff. These features are ideal for discrete manufacturing companies but do not as readily handle some of the issues common to process manufacturers.

The basic manufacturing functionality in Food Manufacturing & Distribution addresses the needs of companies that operate in a process manufacturing environment. In some instances, existing D365 BC features have been enhanced to provide a more streamlined data processing experience. Other features are exclusive to Food Manufacturing & Distribution , focusing on some of the unique challenges process manufacturers face.

The Food Manufacturing & Distribution basic process manufacturing workflow can be broken down into three major stages:

  • Process definition: the production processes used to manufacture intermediate and finished good items are set up in the program.

  • Planning and scheduling: a variety of tools assist the user in planning production based on demand, then creating and scheduling the necessary production orders.

  • Execution and reporting: the user records the results of the production process.

The following table describes a sequence of activities, with links to the topics that describe them. These activities are listed in the order in which they are generally performed.
