Allocate resources in production

Prev Next

Resources can be pre-assigned to operations. In this scenario, the machine is planned according to its capacity when Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central calculates the Planning Worksheet. This is useful when a resource always works at the same machine. Prepare these assignments through standard tasks or directly in the routing.

The following functionality is available to allocate resources to manufacturing orders.

Steps - Standard tasks

Standard tasks are used as a template to complete routings. An option to add resource groups and/or resources has been added to the Navigate menu:

  1. Type Standard Tasks in the search box and select the one in Manufacturing/Capacities/Setup.

  2. Create a new standard task.

  3. Select the Navigate tab to find the different items that can be attached to a standard task: Tools, Personnel, Description, Quality Measures, and Resources.

Steps - Routing

Resource groups and/or resources can be inserted directly into routings:

  1. Type Routings in the search box and select the one in Product Design.

  2. Open an existing routing (for example, 1000 Bicycle).

  3. Select an operation from the list.

  4. To add a standard task, make the Standard Task column visible in the list and select the standard task from the drop-down list to add all items attached to the operation.

  5. Open the Line menu, select Operation, and then select Resource.

  6. In the Routing Resource, specify the following fields:

    • Resource No.: select a specific resource (Description and Resource Group are retrieved automatically).

    • Work Type: required to determine the specific rate for the resource.

    • Operation Type: Setup Time or Run Time.

    • % of Operation Time: the percentage of the selected operation time done by the resource (if the resource does all work: 100%; if two resources: 50% each, and so on).
