Retain translations that are absent from the import

Prev Next

Use this procedure to confirm that an existing translation is retained when the language is not included in a later PLM import. This behavior applies to both translation update strategies.

Steps

  1. Go to Product information management > Products > Released products.

  2. Locate and open the existing main product.

  3. Open the Translations form and confirm that the product contains the translation you plan to exclude from the import. For example, confirm that an Italian translation exists.

  4. Open the product variants and select the relevant variant.

  5. Open the variant’s Translations form and confirm that the same translation exists.

  6. Go to Engineering change management > PLM integration > PLM systems.

  7. Select and open the relevant PLM system.

  8. Review the Translation update strategy setting. The existing translation is retained with either of the following settings:

    • Variant-only updates

    • Product and variant updates

  9. Import the existing product from the PLM source. Make sure that the import file does not contain the language you are testing, such as Italian.

  10. Go to Engineering change management > PLM integration > PLM staging journals.

  11. Locate and open the staging journal created by the import.

  12. Select the relevant journal line and open the Translations tab.

  13. Confirm that the excluded language is not included in the imported translation records.

  14. Click Post journal. The system processes only the languages included in the import and does not remove the excluded translation.

  15. After posting is complete:

    • The journal status changes to Posted.

    • Languages included in the import are added or updated as required.

    • Languages absent from the import remain unchanged.

    • The Infolog displays the processing results.

  16. Return to the main product and open the Translations form.

  17. Confirm that the excluded translation is still available.

  18. Open the relevant product variant and review its translations.

  19. Confirm that the excluded translation is also still available on the variant.

Note

  • The integration only adds or updates languages included in the import. It does not delete existing translations when a language is absent from the import file.

  • If an imported translation is identical to the existing value, the system skips the update. Therefore, no unnecessary update is recorded in the Infolog.
