Validity period for the electronic signature certificate

Prev Next

Electronic signatures in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management have built-in digital signature functionality. Each user who signs documents must obtain a valid cryptographic certificate. The private key associated with that certificate is validated when a document is signed.

For regulated industries, electronic signatures affixed on electronic records are legally binding equivalents for handwritten signatures. Therefore, the electronic signature in an ERP system must be compliant with regulations described in 21 CFR Part 11, issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Therefore, Life Sciences Supply Chain Management allows for the definition of a validity period for the electronic signature certificates (different from the one of Dynamics AX 2012 user/Windows user). The electronic signature validity period ensures that users periodically modify their electronic signature password to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the system.

The validity period of electronic signature certificates can be set in Organization administration > Setup > Electronic signature > Electronic signature parameters > Days signature expires.

When the certificate expires, the user will need to get a new certificate via the Get certificate button in the User options form, Account tab (Common > Setup > User options).
