# Validation on shelf-life periods

Life Sciences Supply Chain Management allows controlling whether the material expiration date can be equal to the shelf-advice date though the **Shelf life period equal to Shelf advice period** parameter in the **Inventory and warehouse management parameters** form (**Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters > General** tab).

If the parameter is enabled, users can:

- Set the **Shelf life period in days** to the same value as the **Shelf advice period in days** in the **Released product details** form (**Product information management > Products > Released products > Released product details > Manage inventory** FastTab).
- Set the **Expiration date** for batches/sub-batches to the same value as the **Shelf advice date**.

Users are anyway prevented from setting a shorter shelf-life period than the shelf-advice period.
