Standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management enables material consumption against a project using the Item journals (Project management and accounting > Journals > Item). The Life Sciences Warehouse Management module allows executing consumption against a project via mobile device.
The Project consumption mobile device menu item can be created (Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items) and assigned to mobile device menus (Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu). Authorized users can access the menu item in the Warehouse Management app and process the consumption, which triggers the automatic generation of an item journal in the client. Specify the proper item journal name in the Default project journal field (Warehouse management > Setup > Warehouse management parameters > General tab).
It is possible to enable the Automatic project item journal posting parameter (Warehouse management > Setup > Warehouse management parameters > General tab) to automatically post the created item journal (each consumption creates a new journal). If the parameter is disabled, the journal is generated but not posted, allowing users to add multiple lines, review the journal, and post it manually.
When executing the consumption via mobile device, the user is prompted to scan the Project ID against which the consumption must be executed. If the automatic posting is disabled, it is also possible to scan the Journal ID (only open item journals can be scanned) to add a consumption line to the existing journal.
Note
The relationship between the item journal and project is always 1:1.
Once the journal/project is scanned, the user enters/scans the tracking dimensions required to identify the material to be consumed (that is, item, batch number, sub-batch) and the location and license plate (if needed) where the material is stored. As the last step, the user enters the quantity to be deducted. The process is completed, and the journal is created in the client.
Note
The Project consumption menu item can only be used to deduct quantity, not to create inventory on-hand.
