In most circumstances, drug products have different types of names, including:
Chemical names: the most important of which is the IUPAC name. These are the scientific names, based on the molecular structure of the drug.
Generic or non-proprietary names, the most important of which are International Non-proprietary Names (INNs). These are usually indicated via their stems and what drug class the drug belongs to.
Trade names, which are brand names or trademark names.
To keep track of the different names for a product, Life Sciences Supply Chain Management provides the capability to define multiple synonyms for a product and search the list of items by synonyms.
Users can define product synonyms for a selected product in the Product synonyms form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Product tab > Product synonyms).
All the synonyms associated with items can be viewed in the Product synonyms by item inquiry (Inventory management > Inquiries and reports > Product synonyms > Product synonyms by item). The information listed in this inquiry can be filtered to easily retrieve a specific item regardless of the name used for the search.
