# Lock/unlock batch fields

Life Sciences Supply Chain Management provides the capability to lock fields for batches to prevent automatic updates from the parent item by clicking the **Lock fields** button in the **Functions** tab of the **Batches** form (**Inventory management > Inquiries and reports > Tracking dimensions > Batches**). The **Locked fields** parameter is automatically enabled, and the system does not prompt the user to recalculate any other date whenever using the **Reset shelf life dates** feature (for example, does not update the **Expiration date** based on a new **Manufacturing date**).

Users can unlock fields for a specific batch by clicking the **Lock fields** button and enabling the **Unlock fields** parameter. The **Locked fields** parameter is automatically disabled, and all the disabled/modified capabilities are restored.

It is possible to select multiple batches and lock/unlock the corresponding fields at the same time.
