Materials can be traced back to the vendor and forward through the production and sale of the finished product by going to the **Item tracing** form (**Inventory management > Inquiries and reports > Tracking dimensions > Item tracing**). By standard, it is not possible to use the item tracing feature for transactions linked to projects. For this reason, the Life Sciences Supply Chain Management module extends the standard feature to make it available for batches linked to projects. Enable the **Item tracing for projects** parameter (**Inventory management > Setup > Inventory and warehouse management parameters > General** tab) to allow tracing batches linked to projects. The [Item tracing report](/life-sciences/docs/item-tracing-report) can also be generated for batches linked to projects. > [!NOTE] > Note > > Please refer to the D365 F&SCM documentation for information about the logic of the item tracing functionality. ## Related - [Item tracing report](/item-tracing-report.md)
