Reservation at the batch level for sub batch tracked items provide capability to reserve certain batches and leave operators to pick and move any sub batch belonging to the reserved batch, this is defined and achieved using the Reservation hierarchy assigned to the items. This gives the flexibility for material picking and not restricted to a specific container in the manufacturing and warehouse transfer processes.
Life Sciences Supply Chain Management allows for the definition of flexible sub batch reservation by enabling the Allow reservation on demand order in the Sub batch dimension in the Inventory reservation hierarchies form (Warehouse management > Setup > Inventory > Reservation hierarchy).
For instance, when clinical kits are managed as sub batches in the system, it may become mandatory to reserve at certain sub batches being the certain kits must be shipped to certain customer.
The Sub batch reservation button and form have been added in the Sales order form (Accounts receivable > Orders > All sales orders or Sales and marketing > Sales orders > All sales orders). The button is enabled only for items that are sub batch tracked, with batch reservation (that is batch number above location and sub batch below location) and the Allow reservation on demand order enabled at the Sub batch level.
By clicking the Sub batch reservation button, the Sub batch reservation form is displayed.
Note
Only sub batches that do not have the Block reservation enabled in sales process in the Batch disposition code will be displayed.
Only non-expired and non-stopped sub batches will be displayed.
Use code control is in place to validate the use code of selected sub batch against the intended use code defined in the sales order.
Once reservation is made, the inventory transactions is updated with Reference type Order-committed reservation in the Inventory transactions form (Product information management > Products > Released products > Manage inventory > Transactions) with the reserved sub batch(es).
It is possible to release to warehouse the sales order to generate wave, load, and work but the work is not considering the location directive setup for the work order type and the warehouse.
The Sub batch is not displayed in the sales order picking work but is displayed by clicking the Transactions button in the Work form and on the Warehouse Management app.
After the work is created, the inventory transactions with Reference type Order-committed reservation is removed.
During the picking via Warehouse Management app, the sub batch number is displayed in the app (that is users are instructed to pick the specific sub batches).
