Inherit manufacturing date from a component

Prev Next

The manufacturing process is often divided into multiple steps. For example, the bulk product is prepared (for example, tablets) and then packed into the finished packaged product. The finished product’s manufacturing date must be the date when the bulk product was prepared and not the packaging date.

From the ERP perspective, this process requires the finished product batch (that is, packaged product) to automatically inherit the manufacturing date from one of its component batches (that is, bulk product).

Life Sciences Supply Chain Management allows users to enable the Inherit manufacturing date to end item parameter in the master formula lines. This parameter indicates that the manufactured product will inherit the manufacturing date from the component (that is, the ingredient with the Inherit manufacturing date to end item enabled in the formula line setup).

The Inherit manufacturing date to end item parameter is also available on the Product details FastTab> Formula > Lines > Setup tab of the Engineering change orders form (Engineering change management > Common > Engineering change management > Engineering change orders).

In both cases of engineering and non-engineering products, the Inherit manufacturing date to end item parameter can be enabled for one formula line at a time. When it is enabled for a line, it is automatically disabled (and greyed out) for the other formula lines.

Note

It is not possible to enable the Inherit manufacturing date to end item parameter for more than one line per formula.

Example

A generic finished product is associated with a formula with the following lines:

  • Ingredient 1: Inherit manufacturing date to end item disabled

  • Ingredient 2: Inherit manufacturing date to end item disabled

  • Ingredient 3: Inherit manufacturing date to end item enabled

The finished product batch “BN101” is produced by consuming the following ingredients:

  • Batch “BN001” of Ingredient 1, the manufacturing date is “1st Jan. 2023”.

  • Batch “BN002” of Ingredient 2, the manufacturing date is “1st Feb. 2023”.

  • Batch “BN003” of Ingredient 3, the manufacturing date is “1st Mar. 2023”.

The manufacturing date is automatically assigned to batch “BN101” as “1st Mar. 2023”, copied from batch “BN003”.

The manufacturing date can be copied:

  • By clicking the Copy bulk batch date button in the Batch order formula lines form. The user is asked to confirm the copy of the manufacturing date, and the process can be secured by enabling the electronic signature. The date is copied from the reserved/consumed batch of the ingredient with the Inherit manufacturing date to end item parameter enabled. When the ingredient is sub batch managed and multiple sub batches are reserved/consumed, if the sub batches have different manufacturing dates the system copies the earliest date. The Copy bulk batch date button can be clicked only after raw material reservation is completed. All the modifications to the batch dates via Copy bulk batch date button are registered in the Database log.

  • Automatically, during the report as finished process if the manufactured batch dates are still blank. If at the moment of the report as finished the Manufacturing date of the batch is already populated (either manually or using the Copy bulk batch date function), it will not be modified.
