# Formula/BOM approval workflow

Life Sciences Supply Chain Management offers comprehensive capabilities for managing the formula/BOM approval process through an integrated workflow system. Workflow functionality can be activated by setting the **Formula/BOM approval workflow** parameter to **Yes** within the **Bills of materials** tab of the **Inventory and warehouse management parameters** form (**Inventory management** > **Setup** > **Inventory and warehouse management parameters**).

Once enabled, workflows are configured in the **Inventory management workflows** form (**Inventory management** > **Setup** > **Inventory management workflows**), supporting sophisticated approval processes including multiple steps and multiple assignees. Completion of the workflow is required to finalize formula/BOM approval.

Additionally, the formula/BOM approval workflow is available for engineering change orders and can be accessed in the **Product details** FastTab, under the **Formula** tab of the **Engineering change orders** form (**Engineering change management** > **Common** > **Engineering change management** > **Engineering change orders**).

> 
> To enhance flexibility and enable differentiation between engineering and non-engineering product approval processes, the Formula/BOM approval workflow allows the inclusion of a Conditional decision based on the Engineering controlled parameter (Field **EngChgIsEngineeringControlled**).
