The document type defines what is tested: - External document - File based: Reads the data from a defined file and tests the document query. - External document - ODBC: Reads the data from an external database and tests the document query. - Internal document: Tests the document query. As a result: - The records that are read from the file or from the external database, are shown on the Imported records page. - When you test a document, based on the document setup, a query is created that reads the data. The result of the query test is shown in the message bar. If the '**No data found**' message is shown, the document is not set up properly. In the message bar, you can click '**Message details**' to see more detailed information. > [!NOTE] > **Note** > > Before you test an external document, make sure, the document process type is set to '**Query**'. After testing the document, if the original process type was '**Direct**', do not forget to change the process type back to '**Direct**'. ### Steps 1. Click **Connectivity studio - Integration Design**. 2. Click the **Documents** tab. 3. In the list, find and select the desired document. 4. Click **Edit**. 5. On the **Action Pane**, click **Development**. 6. Click **Test**. 7. In the **Connector** field, enter or select the connector that you want to use for this test. 8. If you test an external file-based document, select the data file to be used for testing. The data is read from this file. The selected connector defines the file system that is shown. By default, the files are filtered based on the **Read filename** setting on the document header. In the **File name** field, enter or select a value. 9. In the **Number of records** field, enter the number of records to be used for the test. 10. To test a document of type **Staging**, you can select a specific staging journal to be processed instead of processing all staging journals. In the **Journal record ID** field, enter or select a value. > [!NOTE] > **Note** > > - The **Journal record ID** field is available only if the selected connector is of type **Staging journal**. > - The selected connector defines from which company you can select a staging journal: All companies or the current company. > - You only can select staging journals with the message status '**To be processed**' and the journal status '**Approved**'. > - In case of the generic staging journal, you can only select staging journals that are created with the same document as the tested document. 11. Click **OK**. 12. If you test an external document, the Imported files page is opened. This page shows the records that are read from the file or from the external database. Click **OK**. 13. Close the page.
