The relation is required to be able to query from parent to child records in the record tree. Check or define the relation between the table for the current record and the table of the parent record. > [!NOTE] > **Note** > > If you define the parent record for an internal document and a table relation exists with the current records table, it automatically adds the first-found relation to the current record. If the relation fields are not yet added to the parent record or the current record, these are automatically added. For an **ODBC** document, you must set the relations manually. ### Steps 1. Click **Connectivity studio - Integration Design**. 2. Click the **Documents** tab. 3. In the list, find and select the desired internal or **ODBC** document. 4. Click **Edit**. 5. In the **Record** section, in the **Record** list, find and select the desired record. 6. Click the **Relations** tab. 7. Click **New**. 8. Set the field of the current record that defines the relation with the parent record. In the **Record** field, enter or select a value. 9. If you use a **Custom query**, you can use this field to define a relation to an ancestor document record of the current document record. In the **Parent record ID** field, enter or select a value. > [!NOTE] > **Note** > > - This field is available only if for the document, on the header, the **Query type** is '**Custom**'. > - Keep the automatically created relation with the parent record. > - Only select a real ancestor document record. 10. Set the field of the parent record that defines the relation with the current record. In the **Parent field** field, enter or select a value. 11. Close the page. ## Related - [Custom query for internal documents](/custom-query-for-internal-documents.md) - [Manage document record setup - ODBC documents](/manage-document-record-setup-odbc-documents.md) - [Manage document record setup - Internal documents](/manage-document-record-setup-internal-documents.md)
