Set up web service user
Application task

Set up the external users that are allowed to access the inbound web service to start an inbound web service action.
For each external web service user, define:
  • The allowed inbound web service actions.
  • The companies in which the web service action is allowed to run.
If the inbound web service application (IIS application or Azure Logic Apps) receives an HTTP request from an external application, it calls a D365 F&SCM method to check:
  • If the external user, as defined in the HTTP request, is defined as web service user.
  • If it is allowed to start the web service action for the web service user.
  • If it is allowed to run the web service action for the web service user in the company, as defined in the HTTP request.


Standard procedure

1. Go to Connectivity studio > Setup > Web service > Web service user.
2. Click New.
3. Enter the user name of the external web service user.
If you use an IIS application, the user name must be a windows account name including the domain. For example: CONTOSO\Administrator.
  In the UserName field, type a value.
4. You can enter the display of the external web service user.
  In the Display name field, type a value.
5. You can enter a description or notes that apply to the web service user.
  In the Note field, type a value.
6. Sub-task: Define allowed web service actions.
  6.1 For each external web service user, define:
- The allowed inbound web service actions.
- The companies in which the web service action is allowed to run.
  Expand the Web service section.
  6.2 Click New.
  6.3 Define the allowed inbound web service actions for the web service user.
  In the Web service action field, enter or select a value.
  6.4 Indicate if the web service action is allowed for:
- A specific company.
- A company group.
- All companies.
  In the Valid for field, select an option.
  6.5 If the web service action is allowed for a company group, fill in the applicable company group.
  In the Company group field, enter or select a value.
  6.6 If the web service action is allowed for a specific company, fill in the applicable company.
  In the Company field, enter or select a value.
7. Close the page.
8. Close the page.
