Consider creating a subset of security roles that are actually used in your company. This way, the security administrator has a better overview of the security roles that are used in your company.

This topic explains how you can create an exact copy of a security role.

Steps

  1. Click Security management.

  2. Click the Roles tab.

  3. In the list, find and select the desired record.

  4. Click Duplicate role.

  5. In the Role Name field, type a value.

  6. In the Description field, type a value.

  7. Click OK.

    Note

Once the security role is created, it is validated automatically to verify if it complies with the segregation of duties rules. If enhanced segregation of duties rules are enabled, the role is validated against the enhanced segregation of duties rules.

Duplicate security role from Security configuration

You can also duplicate a security role from the System administration > Security configuration page.

In this you can select the license for the duplicate security role. If the selected license is lower than the original, and Security and Compliance Studio:

  • Is not implemented, the standard D365 F&SCM security configuration functionality removes all duties with a higher license. These duties are removed regardless of whether individual objects within those duties are compatible with the target license. See also: Duplicate a security role with a license filter.

  • Is implemented, these actions are done:

    • Checks each privilege, entry point, and securable object individually against the target license type.

    • Removes only the securable objects that are incompatible with the selected license.

    • Retains all compatible securable objects, including those inside duties that also contain incompatible objects.

    • Provides a post-duplicate summary of the removed and retained securable objects.

    • Creates an audit log entry for every duplicate role operation where a lower license is chosen. The audit log event type is Role copied to lower license. The audit log provides information on, for example, the chosen license type and the removed and retained securable objects. See also: Analyze security configuration history
