# Submit an engineering change request

Once approved, send the ECR to engineering. The simple way is to print the ECR and deliver it manually to the engineering department. The lifecycle also provides a trigger that a connection can pick up to make an electronic delivery.

## Steps

To maintain the connection:

1. Type **Engineering Change Management Connections** in the search box.
2. Select the **Engineering Change Management-ECR** connection and open it or select **Edit** from the ribbon.
3. The connection has three elements:
  - The **WORKFLOWEVENT** selects the workflow and workflow state that triggers the connection. In this example, **40-PROCESS** is selected.
  - The **XMLGENERATOR** creates an XML file from the current record of the ECR table. The fields in the file are specified in the Engineering Change Management-ECR Document.
  - The **FILEWRITER** writes the generated file to a specified location on the network. The file name is generated and you can configure it.
