# Setting up item life cycles

Lifecycles use states and state transitions to control business processes. Refer to the STAEDEAN-Common LifeCycle section for the basic setup.

### Adding Item LifeCycle settings

From the **LifeCycle States** page, provide additional settings for an Item LifeCycle. The settings are available through a setup table specified in the [LifeCycle Type](/business-central/docs/bc-lifecycle-base-setup). The lifecycle type is inserted when the Item LifeCycle sample file is imported.

To maintain the settings:

1. Select **Settings** in the **Process** group on the **LifeCycle States** page to provide settings for the selected state.
2. Check one or more of the following fields to select or deselect the checks for the selected lifecycle state.

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| LifeCycle No. | (Not editable) The current lifecycle. |
| Version Code | (Not editable) The version of the current lifecycle. |
| Code | (Not editable) As per the selected lifecycle state. |
|  | > [!NOTE] > **Note** The settings open with a filter on the **Code** field. Clear the filter to view and edit the complete list of settings. |
| Create SKU | When checked, you can create an SKU from an item with this state. |
| Available for Planning | When checked, an item with this state is used in the material requirements calculation. |
| Available for Purchase | When checked, you can select an item with this state on a purchase order line. |
| Available for Assembly | When checked, you can select an item with this state in an assembly order. |
| Available for Production | When checked, you can select an item with this state in a production order header. |
| Available for Job | When checked, you can select an item with this state on a job planning line. |
| Available for Sales | When checked, you can select an item with this state on a sales order line. |
| Available for Service | When checked, you can select an item with this state on a service invoice (work order) line. |
