# Set up lot number segment values

Define lot number segment values for each location, piece of equipment, or work shift code included in a lot number generated according to a custom format. When one of these records is included as part of a custom lot number, the defined lot number segment value is used.

## Steps

1. In the search box, enter **Lot No. Segment Values**, and then choose the related link.
2. On the **Home** tab, in the **New** group, choose **New**.
3. In the **Type** field, select the type of record that will have a lot number segment value.
4. Fill in the **Code/No.** field with the record that will have a lot number segment value.
5. In the **Segment Value** field, enter a segment value for the record.
