This topic describes how to set up container types for use with transport orders. ## Steps 1. Choose the ![Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature](https://cdn.document360.io/da662430-6a41-47b1-8c7e-7e4ac37a9756/Images/Documentation/search_small(3).png) icon (Alt+Q), enter **Container Types**, and click the relevant link. 2. Under the **Administration** section, click **Container Types** to open the list of all container types. 3. Click **New** to create a new container type. 4. Enter values for the **Code** and **Description** fields, and complete the following fields: | Field | Description | | --- | --- | | Unit of Measure | Mandatory. Specify the unit of measure for the container type. Uses the standard Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Unit of Measures. | | Length / Width / Height | Determine the standard measurement of the container type. Use a consistent notation (m, cm, mm, or ft): these fields do not consider a unit of measure. | | Tare Weight | Specify the tare weight for the container type: the weight of the container type when empty. | | Volume | Calculated from the **Length**, **Width**, and **Height** fields. Used as the default value in the transport order line. | | Loading Meters | Specify the loading length for the container type. Used as the default value in the transport order line. The loading length is based on the optimal positioning of the container, assuming the standard width of a truck. | | Stackable | Specify the number of containers that can be stacked on top of each other. This value factors into the calculation of total loading meters in the truck. | | Blocked for Transport | When selected, the container type cannot be used in a transport order line. | | Container Item No. | Select an item number for the container. When an item number is specified, you can track the inventory of containers. | | Item Unit of Measure | Copied from the **Item card**. This unit of measure should match the container item unit of measure. There is no conversion between these units of measure. | | Purchase Process | Select how to handle container transactions in inbound documents. **Blank**: no transactions are handled. **Adjustment**: inventory transactions for the container item are created when an inbound transport order is posted. **Purchase**: not currently supported; intended for a future release to add a container item line to a purchase document. | | Sales Process | Select how to handle container transactions in outbound documents. **Blank**: no transactions are handled. **Adjustment**: inventory transactions for the container item are created when an outbound transport order is posted. **Sale**: not currently supported; intended for a future release to add a container item line to a sales document. | ## Related - [Working with containers](/bc-working-with-containers.md) - [Create containers](/bc-create-containers.md) - [Cross-dock containers](/bc-cross-docking-containers.md) - [Use miscellaneous containers](/bc-use-miscellaneous-containers.md)
