# Set up an asset

Use assets in the program to track your maintenance activities. After setting up assets, you can create work orders for them.

## Steps

1. In the search box, enter **Assets**, and then choose the related link.
2. On the **Home** tab, in the **New** group, choose **New**.
3. In the **No.** field, enter a number for the asset.

Alternatively, if you have set up number series for assets in the **Maintenance Setup** page, press **Enter** and the program enters the next available number.
4. In the **Description** field, enter a description for the asset.
5. Fill in the other fields on the asset card.
