Industrial Equipment Manufacturing (IEM) for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central supports the customer-driven (pull) style of manufacturing.
For most companies in this style of manufacturing, involvement does not end when the project is completed. First, there is a warranty period to handle. Beyond that, there are maintenance, repair, and overhaul opportunities in the installed base.

Industrial Equipment Manufacturing offers the option to create an as-built or as-installed structure as part of the installed base. The first step is to convert the project deliverable into a service object, which then functions as an aggregation level for project items created as service items and linked to the service object. Every item used in a project and assigned to a Service Item Group marked as Create Service Item results in a service item being created when the item is consumed or delivered.
This process goes further when the service object is used to create a fixed asset. The fixed asset acquisition then posts the revenue back into the project to complete it. The fixed asset can then be rented or leased back to the customer. The service object's service items can be copied to fixed asset components linked to the main asset. In this way, the fixed asset records the costs of depreciation and insurance while the service object handles all repairs and maintenance.
With all this functionality connected, you can provide complete servitization scenarios:
Service as a necessity: pure product supplier.
Service as added value: value-added supplier.
Service as a business: full-service provider.
Service is the business: integrated solutions provider.
