# Quality control sample setup examples

The following examples show how Quality Control samples are calculated to guide the QA/QC person in writing off the correct quantity. There are many other possibilities, but these examples provide insight into how the feature works in basic terms.

## Example 1

Four data collection lines with the same sample unit of measure and **Combine Samples** set to **Yes** on all lines.

| Data Element Code | Sample Quantity | Sample UoM | Combine |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bacteria | 0.25 | LB | Yes |
| Color | 0.25 | LB | Yes |
| Smell | 0.25 | LB | Yes |
| Temperature | 0.25 | LB | Yes |

This example results in a write-off of 1 LB.

## Example 2

Two data collection lines with different sample units of measure and **Combine Samples** set to **Yes** on all lines.

| Data Element Code | Sample Quantity | Sample UoM | Combine |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bacteria | 2 | LB | Yes |
| Color | 1 | KG | Yes |

In this example the system calculates back to the base unit of measure and writes off approximately 4 LB.

## Example 3

Two data collection lines with different sample units of measure and **Combine Samples** set to **No**.

| Data Element Code | Sample Quantity | Sample UoM | Combine |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bacteria | 2 | LB | No |
| Color | 1 | KG | No |

In this example the system creates two write-off lines: one for 2 LB and one for 1 KG.

## Example 4

Four data collection lines with two different sample units of measure and **Combine Samples** set to **Yes** on the lines with sample unit of measure LB.

| Data Element Code | Sample Quantity | Sample UoM | Combine |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Bacteria | 0.25 | LB | Yes |
| Color | 0.25 | LB | Yes |
| Smell | 0.5 | LB | Yes |
| Temperature | 1 | KG | No |

In this example the system creates two write-off lines: one for 1 LB and one for 1 KG.
