# Perform global state update

The **Global State Update** function changes the status of selected Lifecycle instances to a specified state. If **New State Code** is left blank, the instances move to the next state.

### To perform a global state update

1. Choose the ![](https://cdn.document360.io/da662430-6a41-47b1-8c7e-7e4ac37a9756/Images/Documentation/image(138).png) icon (Alt+Q).
2. Type **LifeCycles** to open the **LifeCycles** list.
3. Select **Instances**.
4. On the **Lifecycle Instances** page, select **Change State**.
5. On the **Update Lifecycle Instance** page, fill in the following fields and select **Yes** to update selected or filtered records:

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| New State Code | Specify the new state code. |
| Description | Description of the selected new state. |
