# Initialize Lifecycle

The initialization function sets the initial state for Lifecycle records. Use filters to set up Lifecycles in an existing database.

### To initialize a Lifecycle

1. On a **Lifecycle Card**, locate the **Initialize** action.
2. Select the **Initialize** action.
3. Fill in the following fields:

| Field | Description |
| --- | --- |
| No. | Identifies the Lifecycle. |
| Version Code | Identifies the Lifecycle version. |
| Description | Describes the Lifecycle. |
| Table Name | Table on which the Lifecycle is based. |
| Filters | Use filters to define a subset of records to set the initial state. |
| Initial State Code | Select the state code for initialization. If left blank, the first defined state is used. |
| Description | Description of the selected Initial State Code. |
