When working with such an item, you can record this information directly on the transaction line. If several alternate quantity values exist for a single line, record them in the **Alternate Quantity Lines** page. ## Steps 1. Select the appropriate document or journal line. 2. Select the alternate quantity field for which you want to enter alternate quantity lines. The caption of the alternate quantity field depends on the function of the transaction line. For example, the field for recording the alternate quantity of an item being shipped on a sales line has the caption **Qty. to Ship (Alt.)**. 3. On the **Alternate Quantity Lines** page, enter a line for each alternate quantity amount you want to record. Enter the alternate quantity amount for a transaction line in relation to the transaction unit of measure defined on that line. You can enter as many alternate quantity lines as necessary, but the sum of the values in the **Quantity** field cannot exceed the quantity to handle defined for that transaction line. If the sum of the values in the **Quantity** field is less than the original quantity to handle, the program updates the amount on the transaction line when you close the **Alternate Quantity Lines** page. 4. Assign lot numbers to the alternate quantity lines, if necessary. 5. Choose **OK** to close the page. ## Related - [Alternate units of measure](/bc-alternate-units-of-measure.md) - [Alternate unit of measure assignment](/bc-alternate-unit-of-measure-assignment.md)
