Cross-dock containers

Prev Next

With Transport and Deliveries, you can receive items in a container, put the container away in a cross-dock bin, and pick the complete container again from an inventory or warehouse pick.

Steps - Enable cross-docking

Enable this function with the following settings:

  1. The location must have warehouse settings for Require Put-Away, Require Pick, and Bin Mandatory.

  2. Select Use Cross-Docking and specify a date formula in Cross-Dock Due Date Calc. on the Warehouse tab of the Location card. Select a Cross-Dock Bin Code on the Bins tab as the default bin.

  3. On the Project card, select a Cross-Dock Bin Code to override the one on the Location card.

Steps - Receive a cross-dock

  1. Create a warehouse receipt from a project-specific purchase order.

    Note
The Qty. to Cross-Dock field in the warehouse receipt lines is calculated automatically.

  2. Select the lines to add to a container (hold down the Ctrl key to select several lines).

  3. In the Line menu, click Create Container.

  4. In the pop-up, select the container type and optionally enter a License Plate number. When left blank, the container ID is copied to the License Plate.

    Note
Only Closed containers are cross-docked. Set the container status to Closed from this pop-up, or close it from the Container Worksheet afterwards.

  5. When all lines are added to containers, open the Container Worksheet from the Warehouse Receipt ribbon.

  6. From the Container Worksheet, open the Container card to print labels and review container details.

    Note
Make sure to change the container status to Closed.

  7. When all containers are Closed, close the Container Worksheet and post the warehouse receipt to create the warehouse put-away.

  8. In the search box, type Warehouse Put-Away, open it, and register it.

    Note
The bin where the container is put away is either the location cross-dock bin or the project cross-dock bin, as per your settings.

Steps - Ship a cross-dock

  1. Create an inventory or warehouse pick from the project task.

  2. Use Put-Away/Pick/Movement Lines to open the pick lines.

  3. Open the Container Worksheet from the pick lines menu.

  4. Use Cross-Dock Container from the Container Worksheet menu to select the container from the cross-dock bin. Click OK to confirm. This action changes the transport type of the container from Inbound to Outbound and marks the pick lines as picked, after which the pick can be registered.
