Create Project Task Matrix

Steps - Create a project task structure from an estimate

Use the Create Project Task Matrix to create a project task structure from an estimate.

  1. Select the Action tab and click Create Project Task Matrix to open the page.

  2. In the header, specify a Starting No. for the project tasks to create.

  3. In the Project Description and Project Description 2 fields, select the field to fill with the ProjectElement or ProjectActivity description. Not Applicable leaves the description blank to complete later.

  4. In Step Size, set the interval between the project task numbers to create.

  5. In the lines, check the cells for which you want to create project tasks. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central already suggests the element or activity combinations as per the estimate.

  6. Click Create in the ribbon to create the project tasks.

Steps - Create a timeline

To create a timeline for the project tasks just created:

  1. Make sure the Scheduling Direction and Starting Point are set on the Planning tab of the Project card.

  2. To calculate the timeline, specify the Next Task No. field. You can do this in two ways:

    • From the project task list, open Actions > Planning > Initialize Next Task No's. This action specifies the next task numbers in sequential order.

    • Specify the next task numbers manually, especially when the sequence is not sequential or you need to specify parallel tasks.

  3. When the next task numbers are set, use the Initialize Task Dates action to calculate the starting and ending dates per project task.
