Items are typically specified from a particular source document, such as a purchase receipt or production order, although standard item ledger entries can also be used. While the container item serves a special role in this process, it is still set up in the system as an item record. A sufficient quantity of the container item must be on hand before you can assign inventory items to it. The following table describes a sequence of activities, with links to the topics that describe them. These activities are listed in the order in which they are generally performed. | To | See | | --- | --- | | Create a container record. | [Create a container](/business-central/docs/bc-create-a-container) | | Create a container in a receipt process. | [Use containers in a receipt process](/business-central/docs/bc-use-containers-in-a-receipt-process) | | Create a container for production output. | [Create containers for production output](/business-central/docs/bc-create-containers-for-production-output) | | Update the items assigned to a container record. | [Change container contents](/business-central/docs/bc-change-container-contents) | ## Related - [Create a container](/bc-create-a-container.md) - [Use containers in a receipt process](/bc-use-containers-in-a-receipt-process.md) - [Create containers for production output](/bc-create-containers-for-production-output.md) - [Change container contents](/bc-change-container-contents.md) - [About containers](/bc-about-containers.md)
