You can enter projects directly into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. This is a common approach when the contractor is known and there is an agreement about the price and deliverables of the project.
In many cases, a sales phase precedes the project and quotations are made to prospects who are not yet customers. To support these requirements, Industrial Equipment Manufacturing closely follows Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central's sales process, where a sales opportunity can be created for a contact or a customer.
Opportunities are driven by a sales cycle consisting of sales cycle stages. In a stage, you can specify when a quote (sales or project) is required.
Steps
Choose the
icon (Alt+Q) and enter Opportunities.Click Edit to open the opportunity and select the Actions tab.
Click Assign Project Quote in the ribbon of the Actions tab.
A Project card opens with the customer or contact details of the opportunity.
Notes
If you selected a Bill-to Contact only (for which no Bill-to Customer exists yet), also specify a Customer Template. Use the Show More Fields option to make the Customer Template field visible.
The Project card shows the Opportunity No. field with the linked opportunity number, and the Project Status field showing the type Quote.
The Opportunity card shows Sales Document Type: Project Quote, and Sales Document No.: the project number just created. Click Show Project Quote to open the linked project quote.
